OFFICE OF THE SUMMIT COUNTY

SHERIFF

Deputy Snell reporting for September 2011.

The Town of Blue River was a busy place this month with road construction, bike race traffic and Labor Day weekend. Residents still used the Tarn even with the cooling temperatures. I contacted several people at the Tarn over Labor Day weekend and most were pleased to see me there. I sold boat permits even this late in the season and advised those residents to make an effort to obtain their permits at the beginning of the season next year. Roadwork around the town caused a few temporary road closures, but most residents seem to be dealing with the situation. I issued 9 citations or summons and 10 warnings for traffic, code violations, refuse and dogs at large. I issued one citation for a traffic violation on town roads.

The bike race on August 27th did not affect Blue River too severely. Vehicle and bicycle traffic increased over the weekend, but there were fortunately no major incidents.

I had only one bear related incident this month where a resident moved out and left a large amount of trash at the street, which was scattered by wildlife. I called the trash companies in the area and attempted to contact the owner. A man working for the real estate company contacted me and advised he was hired to clean it up, which he immediately did. I have been and will be enforcing our refuse ordinances with hopes of continuing to reduce incidents and protect the local wildlife.

CDOT has scheduled the culvert repair project for Highway 9 from September 22 at 7 p.m. to September 23 at 7 a.m. The Sheriffs Office will have the area south of the closure covered for law related incidents. A deputy will be on duty in the area by special detail and/or Park County will be available to assist. Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the closure if necessary with notice to the work crew. Communication will be through Summit County Dispatch.

On 08-17-2011 I contacted the owner of a property on Rio Azul Road concerning an identification sign, which was larger than allowed by code. The owner said he would remove the sign in September when he was coming to the property, a second home. The sign has been removed.

On 08-28-2011 at 1710 hours a deputy responded to the report of cold criminal mischief at Blue River Road and Mountain View. The windshield of a road construction contractors vehicle was apparently damaged by a rock. The vehicle was parked overnight. No suspects were found.

End of report.
